Blugold Center for High Performance Computing

The Blugold Center for HPC is the group in charge of updating and maintaining BOSE and BGSC, as well as working with researchers and students to integrate HPC into their classes and work.

The Blugold Center for HPC has two supercomputing clusters. They are two separate clusters open to all students and faculty at UW Eau Claire. The BGSC is the oldest, created fom various hardware additions from the chemistry department since 2008. The newer cluster, BOSE, came from a grant from the NSF totalling $350,000, along with an in-kind grant from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (the vendor which provides hardware for BOSE), raising the total to $700,000.

The clusters are used by Blugolds to do research in chemistry, biology, computer science, material science, and more. Multiple research groups rely heavily on the clusters to continue their work.

The clusters are also used in many classes as part of their curriculum. In the Fall of 2024, 15 classes used the clusters, impacting more than 500 students.
